Lib Dem Candidate John Roberts has said "Thank You" to everyone who supported him in yesterday's election

Liberal Democrat Candidate for the Princes Ward by-election, John Roberts, has said "Thank You" to everyone who voted for him yesterday.

The result saw an 8% swing from Labour to Liberal Democrat - which would be more than enough for Labour to lose control of Lambeth in next year's council elections (May 2010).

And, just like the Lib Dems said, Conservatives finished in a clear third place. This was despite local Conservatives spending lots of money on glossy full colour leafets saying they were the challengers to Labour.

The result was:

Labour 1726 - 40.6%

John Roberts (LibDem) 1396 - 32.9%

Tory 707 - 16.7%

Green 320 - 7.5%

English Democrats 93 -2.2%
