Vauxhall Parliamentary Campaigner Demands Action on MPs' Expenses8.16.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 18th May 2009
Vauxhall Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Campaigner Caroline Pidgeon AM has signed an open letter from 56 Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidates to House of Commons Speaker Michael Martin, demanding radical action to clean up the expenses system. In the letter, the candidates called for the immediate publication of all expenses and action to make Parliament become transparent and accountable, calling for the Speaker's resignation if he is unable to do so: "It is vital that Parliament must become transparent and accountable now. We call on you, as Speaker of the House, to do everything within your power to force the full publication of all expenses immediately. We also call on you to accept the independent review of MPs expenses and salaries chaired by Sir Christopher Kelly." "If you are unable to do this we then ask you to consider your position. Time is running out for politicians of all parties to repair the damage to our democracy."
