Local Views MUST be heard over Vauxhall's future12.45.35pm GMT Thu 11th Jan 2007 Lambeth Council and the Mayor of London are considering plans for major new developments around the Vauxhall Cross area - and Lib Dem councillors want local people to be fully consulted before any detailed plans are drawn up.
Cllr. Andrew Sawdon said: "The local community's views must be listened to by the council and the Mayor. Our concern is that the Mayor and the government ignored local opinion and insisted on allowing a new 50 storey tower block on St Georges Wharf, so we are calling on them to listen carefully in future. In particular, we don't think our area needs yet more tower blocks". A safer and cleaner area The 3 Oval Ward Councillors have met with Bonnington Square and Vauxhall Grove residents, police and Lambeth Council's lead officer to discuss crime problems. Police said the meeting was valuable and will report back. Local Lib Dem Councillors have also raised the state of lighting and cleanliness around the Vauxhall area with the council and Transport for London - including getting lights repaired in South Lambeth Place.
