Stockwell Shooting: Investigation should be widened say Lib Dems

8.17.51pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 3rd Oct 2005

Commenting on the publication of correspondence between Metropolitan Police Chief Sir Ian Blair and the Home Office relating to the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes at Stockwell Tube Station, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Mark Oaten MP said:

"There are clear discrepancies between what Sir Ian told the Home Affairs Committee on 13th September and the contents of his letter to the Permanent Secretary at the Home Office.

"The Independent Police Complaints Authority's inquiry should now be widened to look at Sir Ian's conduct in relation to the investigation and to comment on the appropriateness of his actions."
