Local Lib Dems are calling on the Tube service to keep serving Brixton over the Christmas break

Brixton Lib Dem Parliamentary Campaigner Charles Anglin has condemned London Underground's plans to close Brixton Tube over the Christmas season and well into the New Year. The plans were confirmed last week despite the lack of consultation with local residents or businesses.

Speaking ahead of a crisis meeting to discuss the closure with the Brixton Business Forum on Thursday 27th November, Charles said:

"This timing is crazy. London's Mayor says this is the quietest time of year but that's nonsense. He is bringing Christmas misery for the thousands of people who use the tube everyday. But it is even worse for local businesses, Christmas is their busiest time of year"

Transport for London have claimed that the work will take 3 weeks but given the delays with the ongoing refurbishment of Brixton Station there is little confidence that they will keep to that time table.

Anglin called for TfL to discuss their plans with the Council and local businesses before reaching a final decision. He added, "We want to know whether there are alternatives. Could this work be done at night? Could it be delayed into the New Year? Brixton residents and businesses have a right to be heard."
